Today is one of those “remember when” days, especially if you’re an Edmonton Oilers fan. Because August 9, 1988, isn’t just a date on the calendar. It’s the day Wayne Gretzky got traded from Edmonton to the Los Angeles Kings, and it felt like the hockey world basically broke in half. People talk about it like a historic moment (because it was). But at the time, it was pure shock. One minute you had the heart and soul of the dynasty in Edmonton. Then, the next minute you’re watching the guy who made everything feel inevitable leave.

Gretzky Led the Oilers to a Dynasty
