The Colorado Avalanche suffered more than just a rare regulation loss on Sunday night against the Florida Panthers.
Captain Gabriel Landeskog exited the game after crashing into the goalpost at the start of the second period and was unable to return.
The incident occurred at 18:38 of the middle frame as Landeskog attempted to cut between two Florida defenders on a rush. His skate appeared to catch on the ice, and he lost control before colliding with the post.
The impact appeared to be around the rib area. Landeskog stayed down for over a minute before being helped off the ice by teammate Nathan MacKinnon and the Avs' medical staff.

Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar confirmed after the game that Landeskog will be out for a while.
"Upper body, he’s going to miss some time," Bednar said. "He’s still getting looked at and diagnosed. Did not look comfortable."
Though the team has not disclosed the exact nature of the injury, Avalanche players MacKinnon and Scott Wedgewood suggested postgame that a bone fracture in the "rib cage area" is a possibility.
MacKinnon, however, noted the hit did not appear to involve Landeskog’s surgically repaired knee.
"Bones heal. They just heal normally," MacKinnon said. "Tendons, ligaments are kind of scary injuries in sports. I think after the process he had, obviously, it looked horrible and it's definitely scary, devastating to see a guy like that hurt like that because he's so tough. But the one bright side, maybe, is it's not his knee."
Landeskog had played in all 41 games this season after returning from a near three-year absence due to knee complications that required multiple surgeries, including a cartilage transplant in 2023.

The Avs' captain had posted seven goals and 22 points with a plus-18 rating through 41 appearances this season, his first one since hoisting the Stanley Cup with his teammates in 2022.
Landeskog’s injury adds to a growing list of sidelined players, with Devon Toews, Mackenzie Blackwood, Joel Kiviranta and Logan O'Connor also recovering from different issues.
By losing 2–1 to Florida, the Avs had a 10-game winning streak snapped in just their third regulation loss of the season. Colorado (31–3–7) returns to action Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:00 p.m. ET.
