Lyndon Byers played for the Boston Bruins over the course of 10 seasons, but now the team is in mourning after the former winger tragically passed aged 61.

The NHL has had to mourn the passing of several people in recent times, and tragically, on Saturday, the Boston Bruins announced another heartbreaking passing.

According to a statement posted on social media, former Boston Bruins winger Lyndon Byers has tragically passed away at age 61, leaving the city of Boston heartbroken.

'The Boston Bruins are deeply saddened by the passing of Lyndon Byers.

Lyndon was a fan favorite across his nine seasons in the Black & Gold thanks to his rugged, rough-and-tumble style and was a key cog on the B's teams that made trips to the Stanley Cup Final in 1988 and 1990.

Following his playing career, Lyndon spent some 25 years as a local radio personality, entertaining scores of New Englanders every day with his quick wit and boisterous voice.

A son of Nipawin, Saskatchewan, Lyndon became a true Bostonian and we will miss him dearly. He is forever a part of our Bruins family.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Annie, and son, Will, during this very difficult time.'

In the statement, the Bruins noted that Byers was the heartbeat of a Bruins team that made it to two Stanley Cup Finals, becoming incredibly beloved by the fans, his teammates and the city as a whole, as his hard nosed style of play won them plenty of games throughout nine seasons.

Throughout his career, Byers appeared in 261 games for Boston, tallying 24 goals and 66 points while spending a whopping 959 minutes in the penalty box, showing just how good he was in his role for the team.

We take this time to send our condolences to the friends, family, former teammates, coaches and anyone that was effected by Byers throughout his career.

Rest in Peace, Lyndon Byers.
