The Chicago Blackhawks have decided to keep Ryan Donato and Pat Maroon leading up to the NHL Trade Deadline. Donato was reportedly a sought-after player earlier in the week, but on Friday, he was said to be in line for a possible extension with Chicago. As for Maroon, his name was brought up in trade rumors on Friday.

The Blackhawks executed one move on Friday, acquiring forward Joe Veleno from Detroit for Petr Mrazek and Craig Smith. However, the other two hot names who could've been on the move will stay put for the rest of the season, at least.
At this point, fans and the organization are focused on a possible extension for Donato. Will the forward be kept around for the foreseeable future, or will he leave in free agency, leaving the Blackhawks with nothing to show for his incredible 2024-25 season? Considering he was not moved at today's deadline, an extension seems more likely.
As for Maroon, the veteran will get to ride out the rest of the season on the fourth line and serve as a leader in the locker room. However, it is unlikely he returns to Chicago for another season, meaning he will either find a new home for the 2025-26 season or hang up the skates for good.
