Add another name to the Chicago Blackhawks injury report. On the first day of 2024, the team placed Tyler Johnson on injured reserve with a right foot injury and recalled Brett Seney from the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL.
In his third season with the Blackhawks, Johnson has 13 points (nine goals, four assists) through 35 games. The veteran forward suffered the injury during the Blackhawks' blowout loss to the Dallas Stars on New Year's Eve. Johnson exited early from the game after logging 6:03 of ice time.
Seney is the latest Blackhawks' depth forward to get an opportunity due to injuries. The 27-year-old has 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 29 games for the IceHogs this season. Seney joined the Blackhawks for a brief stint last season and scored one goal in seven games.
As a result of Monday's transactions, the Blackhawks now have six players — including five forwards — on injured reserve.
The Blackhawks play their first game of 2024 when they visit the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Puck drop is at 7 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago+.
