The Chicago Blackhawks have been decimated by injuries all season long. Their injury report resembles a laundry list more than your traditional injury report. Nonetheless, just when it felt like things couldn't get worse, they have.
According to the team , forwards Connor Bedard and Nick Foligno have been placed on injured reserve. Bedard has a fractured jaw after taking a big hit from Brendan Smith on Friday night and Foligno has a fractured left finger after sticking up for Bedard in a subsequent fight.
The Blackhawks are now up to nine players on IR. Almost half of the roster is not healthy. At this pace, the Blackhawks are destined to be in the NHL Draft lottery once again due to the lack of impact talent on the ice.
Bedard may defy doubters and return with the old school cage or bubble on his helmet. However, he'll still need a number of weeks to rest to heal until he can return. For Foligno, who knows how long his finger will plague him and ultimately delay a return.
The Blackhawks are back in action on Sunday, Jan. 7 against the Calgary Flames for a 2 PM CT puck drop on NBC Sports Chicago. With the latest set of injuries, the success of the team in terms of wins and losses looks bleak moving forward.
Anthony Beauvillier landed on the injured list just days ago, and the latest set of injuries has made the injury list a horrifying source of information for fans and the organization.
