Blackhawks Recall Colton Dach from Rockford IceHogs

Colton Dach is set to join the Chicago Blackhawks roster on Feb. 24 after a cup of coffee with the Rockford IceHogs. Dach was sent to Rockford on Feb. 5 after spending 13 games with the Blackhawks. Blackhawks head coach Anders Sorensen wanted Dach to "be more physical."

Dach's numbers were bad during his 13 games with the Hawks. He had a 34 Corsi at 5-on-5 and a 31% expected goals share. Sorensen wants Dach to be more physical, and those numbers indicate that when Dach was on the ice, the opposition had the puck more than the Hawks and had better-shot quality. Dach also scored one goal and had three assists.

Colton Dach played in three games with the IceHogs since he was last sent down. Dach recorded one assist, four shots on goal, and had a -3 rating. As for physicality, the AHL is limited with which stats are available (hence why I bothered throwing his plus/minus rating in there).

So, why is he up here?

He's most likely up to replace Lukas Reichel in the lineup. With the call-up, the Blackhawks roster now has 13 forwards. Sorensen wasn't happy with Reichel's play in the Blackhawks' loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, and I would be surprised if Reichel remains in the lineup for the next game or two.
