Chicago Blackhawks make announcement that sends young defenseman down to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League (AHL)
Wyatt Kaiser is on the end of the rope, as the team thought it'd be best for him to continue his development in the AHL after skating 28 games with the Chicago Blackhawks this season.
It appears that Seth Jones and (or) defenseman Alec Martinez is near a return, sparking a need for a roster spot.
This move was made after sending down goaltender Drew Commesso, who was also sent to Rockford by Chicago, after the IceHogs sent goaltender Ben Gaudreau to the Indy Fuel of the ECHL.
Kaiser saw himself suit up in Rockford for a full-near season last year with the IceHogs, suiting up for 37 games while he recorded 18 points (4 goals and 14 assists).
This season, he has played 28 games with the Blackhawks, tallying one assist and 14 penalty minutes.
This move may not seem like a surprise, but to a Chicago Blackhawks reporter at CHGO Sports, it truly is.
Gaudreau appeared in two games with the IceHogs last week and made his AHL debut against the Milwaukee Admirals. He made 19 saves in regulation and overtime, ultimately earning the win in the shootout.
