Blake Coleman: the Canadiens discuss possibility of acquiring him

The Canadiens are not done trying to improve.

According to Pierre LeBrun, the Canadiens are currently discussing the possibility of picking up Blake Coleman in Calgary.

LeBrun wouldn’t be surprised to see the Habs make a call to Alberta to get the veteran out of there.

What you need to know is that the Habs have a lot of pieces right now. But the bottom-6 isn’t exactly up to snuff, and there could be ways to improve.

Getting Coleman, who would be perfect on a third line, would be ideal. He’d help the numerical disadvantage (which needs help) and he’d push guys out of the lineup by bringing some sacrosanct sandpaper.

Yes, the Habs have injured players who will return, but other guys will get hurt. Are you really comfortable going to war with Joe Veleno, Owen Beck, and company in the lineup for the playoffs?

I’m not, either.

In 2020 and 2021, Coleman played a big role in the Lightning’s success. The winger was part of an important line and could use that experience with the Habs.

He earns $4.9 million a year for another year and a half. That’s not too intense.

The Habs wouldn’t necessarily go after him before the Olympics, but it’s conceivable that he’d eventually become an important target for the club… especially if Josh Anderson were to go on long-term leave.

Several teams will be on his case, and he’ll have something to say about it, as he can say no to some twenty teams via his no-trade clause. But it’s something to keep an eye on.

– Wow.

– Interesting.

– Of note.

– Really?
