Blue Jackets sign Carson Soucy to one-year contract

A veteran of 441 NHL games over parts of eight seasons with five different teams, Soucy will add grit and experience to a Blue Jackets team that is aiming to compete for a playoff spot amidst lingering uncertainty surrounding the long-term futures of Kirill Marchenko and Zach Werenski.

Soucy began his NHL career with the Minnesota Wild in the late 2010s. A fifth-round pick (No. 137 overall) in 2013, Soucy spent his first four post-draft seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before turning pro with the Wild organization in 2017. The Viking, Alta. product ultimately appeared in 108 games over parts of three seasons in Minnesota before being claimed by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft.

After two years in Seattle, during which he set career highs with 10 goals and 21 points in 64 games in the 2021-22 season, Soucy headed north in the summer of 2023 to sign a three-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks. Midway through his second season in Vancouver, Soucy was flipped to the Rangers in exchange for a third-round pick; just under a year later, the Rangers moved Soucy to the Islanders for the same return.

Soucy is one point shy for 100 in his career, having collected 32 goals and 67 assists in his 441 games with the Wild, Kraken, Canucks, and the two New York teams. He’s added two goals and seven points in 38 playoff contests with Minnesota, Seattle, and Vancouver.
