One of the best youngsters in the game is going to miss some time.
On Monday, St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong announced that forward Jimmy Snuggerud is going to be out of action after suffering a left-wrist injury that will require surgery. As a result, Snuggerud has been placed on injured reserve and will be re-evaluated in six weeks.
In response, St. Louis has called up forward Aleksanteri Kaskimaki from its American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.
It hasn’t been reported when or where the 21-year-old was hurt. He has appeared in each of the team’s 26 games thus far, including this past Saturday when the Blues pulled out a 1-0 win over the Utah Mammoth. In that game, Snuggerud registered 15:02 of ice time across 18 shifts, close to his season’s average.
So far this season, Snuggerud has scored five goals and six assists for 11 points, sitting tied for sixth on the team in scoring with Pavel Buchnevich. Snuggerud has a plus/minus of -2 while averaging 15:27 of ice time per game.
The Minneapolis native joined the Blues near the end of the 2024-25 season, signing his entry-level contract after he and the Minnesota Golden Gophers were knocked out of the NCAA Tournament. He scored a goal and four points in seven regular-season contests, scoring two goals and four points in St. Louis’ first-round series against the Winnipeg Jets. However, the Blues fell to the Presidents’ Trophy winners in a thrilling seven-game series.
Since coming over from his native Finland, Kaskimaki has spent his first two seasons in North America with the Thunderbirds. After notching 34 points in 63 games last season, the 21-year-old has scored four goals and three assists for seven points in 16 games.
The Blues (9-10-7) currently sit seventh in the Central Division, but are just two points back of a Wild Card spot. The team is set to host the Anaheim Ducks on Monday night.
