Blues Prospect Comes Up Clutch in Wild Olympic Finish

It may go down as the biggest goal of Dalibor Dvorsky’s young career — and it came in a loss that must feel like a massive win for Team Slovakia.

In a wild Group B finale at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Slovakia fell 5-3 to Sweden, but Dvorsky’s late power-play strike completely changed the tournament picture. With just 39 seconds remaining and Sweden leading 5-2, the 20-year-old buried a crucial goal to cut the deficit to two.

Sweden needed a three-goal margin victory to secure first place in the group based on tiebreaker scenarios. When Dvorsky scored, it erased that cushion. Team Sweden tried to pull their goalie at the end of the game to regain the same lead, but they failed.

Despite the final score favoring the Swedes, Slovakia’s late push dramatically altered the standings — potentially vaulting them to the top of Group B depending on final results elsewhere.

The goal was set up during a frantic late sequence, with continued strong play from Juraj Slafkovsky. He is tied with Team Canada’s Connor McDavid, each with six points to lead the tournament. “It’s probably the best loss I ever had,” said Slafkovsky after the game. He added, “It’s crazy, but we take it.”

For Dvorsky, a top prospect of the St. Louis Blues, it was a defining Olympic moment. He now has four points in three games in a stacked group, repeatedly delivering in high-pressure situations. “We all know what we need to do on the ice,” Dvorsky noted when asked about what he was thinking at the time of the goal. “There was not too much tactics, right? And at this point of the game, just try to get pucks to the net. And at the end, it was a rebound that was the goal.”
