The St. Louis Blues began a five-game homestand this past week. It was a successful week overall. They started with back-to-back wins over the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights. The week ended on a tough note, though, as the team was shut out on Saturday by the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes. The Blues’ record now stands at 5-5-1 for 11 points.
As always, it’s time to look at the Blues’ standouts of the week.
Justin Barron has been an unexpected bright spot for the Blues this season. When the Blues claimed him off waivers, many thought he would serve as a seventh defenseman given the injuries. Instead, the Nova Scotian has played in all but three games this season. He has been an effective defenseman, even prompting the team to send Theo Lindstein down to the minors because the youngster had no opportunities to play at the NHL level.
Barron has never been known for offense. He had only one point (an assist) through his first six games. However, he suddenly became an offensive machine on Thursday against the Golden Knights. The 24-year-old scored his first goal as a Blue and added three assists. It was his first four-point game of the season.
“I feel good. I feel like I’m just trying to build my game since I got here. The guys on the team have helped me a lot (and) just get comfortable. I feel like I’m a part of this team. It was a good, full effort for our team tonight to play a full 60 minutes here at home.”
Similar to Jonatan Berggren in 2025-26, Barron has provided a spark to the Blues’ lineup. He has been sturdy defensively, and his offense has been fun to watch. He doesn’t need to be an offensive force to be effective, though. If he can stay sturdy defensively, the Blues will be pleased.
Dylan Holloway entered the season with high expectations following his contract extension. With just three goals in 11 games, he hasn’t found the back of the net as expected. However, he is just under a point per game, having recorded 10 points. He is having an impact offensively.
Holloway had a strong week. He recorded an assist on Tuesday against the Jets, then scored two goals and added an assist on Thursday. His goals helped open up the game in the third period. Even on Saturday, when the Blues were shut out, Holloway led the team with four shots on goal.

As the new week gets underway, the winger will be someone to watch. He is getting on the score sheet, but he could be on the verge of breaking out with goals.
It is still hard to believe the Blues were able to pry Holloway and Philip Broberg away from the Edmonton Oilers. In his third season wearing the Blue Note, Broberg is emerging as the team’s top defenseman.
Broberg scored the game-winning goal in the Blues’ win on Tuesday. He also led the team with six shots and added an assist, his only two points of the week. However, the defenseman has helped the Blues beyond goals and assists. He has helped the power play improve with his ability to carry the puck into the zone and his willingness to shoot. Before Saturday’s loss, the Blues had scored a power-play goal in five straight games.

Multiple players have stood out early in the season, which has left Broberg a tad overlooked. However, there is no questioning what he means to this team. From the power play to the penalty kill, he may just be their most valuable defenseman.
The Blues play three games this week. All games will be against Original Six teams. The homestand will wrap up with games against the Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins. The week will end with an afternoon game on Halloween against the Detroit Red Wings.
