A talented blueliner is set to dress in the big time for the first time.

Defenseman Theo Lindstein is set to make his NHL debut with the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night when the team takes on the New York Islanders.

Lindstein was originally taken by the Blues in the first round, 29th overall, of the 2023 NHL Draft. He put his name on draft boards thanks to his development through the Brynäs IF system.

Despite only standing at 6-feet tall, the 21-year-old has an aggressive style that makes him tough to beat, both on the rush in the zone. While his point production isn’t earth-shattering, Lindstein isn’t afraid to jump up in the rush and try to create offensive opportunities.

After spending the previous two seasons with Brynäs in HockeyAllsvenskan and the Swedish Hockey League, the Gävle native arrived in North America this past fall, joining the Blues’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. While the team around him hasn’t been great, sitting seventh in the eight-team Atlantic Division, Lindstein has been working on his game. He has scored six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 56 games, with a plus/minus of -24.

Lindstein has also seen a lot of time in the international game. He has helped Sweden win gold at the 2022 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, and silver at the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, 2023 U-18s, and 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Lindstein is in the first season of his three-year, entry-level contract that he signed in March 2024. The deal carries an NHL cap hit of $918,333, with a minor-league salary of $82,500.

The Blues (25-29-9) are seventh in the Central Division, eight points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
