The Boston Bruins have a huge off-season ahead of them, and now, they've made a shock move early as they've acquired the rights to a former top pick.
This off-season is set to be absolute chaos, and with so many Head Coaches already named and the trade of Chris Kreider going through, once the Stanley Cup Playoffs are over, there's going to be so much shock around the league.
Before that however, the Boston Bruins have made a very intriguing move, as they have officially acquire the rights to a former No. 11 overall pick in exchange for a seventh-round pick and a prospect.
According to Scott Powers, the Bruins have acquired the rights to Victor Soderstrom, who was originally a first-round pick of the Arizona Coyotes, and he would go on to play 53 games with them between 2020 and 2024.
However, this past season he went back to Sweden before the Blackhawks acquired his rights, and now, the 24-year old's rights are officially owned by the Bruins, who could look to bring the talented defenseman back to North America in 2025/26.
In 49 games played in Sweden this past season, Soderstrom posted a solid 9 goals and 37 points along with an impressive +28, and although he's still considered undersized as a defenseman at 5-foot-11, he's clearly got the talent to produce at a high level.
Heading to Chicago in this deal will be a seventh-round draft pick and defensive prospect Ryan Mast, who tallied 5 assists in the AHL a season ago, and while his potential isn't that high, for the Blackhawks to get a late round pick and a player for someone they may have never seen in North America, this appears to be a good deal for both parties.
