Boston Bruins GM Reveals Trade Plans For This Summer

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney spoke to reporters after the 2025 NHL Draft concluded today, revealing his plans for the upcoming offseason, including whether or not he intends to make any major trades.

The Bruins did well in the 2025 draft despite having a relatively limited amount of picks to work with.

Snagging USNDTP center Will Moore at 51st overall was a great value pick as he was expected by many to go in the first round.

But the real prize was getting James Hagens 7th overall.

That being said, Hagens is committed to playing for Boston University next season, so it will be at least a year before he makes his NHL debut.

Naturally, this means that he does not factor into the Bruins' plans for next season, but Don Sweeney still wants to build a competitive team.

As a result, it sounds like he could be exploring options on the trade market as there are relatively few major names available in free agency this summer.

Sweeney himself hinted at this when he spoke to reporters following the conclusion of the second day of the draft.

'We've explored trading in and around the draft and bringing players in. We have a couple of those things we looked at. Maybe they come to bear over the next day or so as well. And we'll foray into free agency if we haven't filled those holes via trade.'

One possibility Sweeney could look into is Colorado Avalanche forward Martin Necas, who was reportedly unhappy playing with the team.

Necas was a major piece in the first Mikko Rantanen trade that saw the Finnish winger head to Carolina this past season.

Of course, there are plenty of other options out there as well.

The Bruins could use help wherever they can get it, but especially up front, so a trade for a froward would seem the most likely.

That being said, we'll just have to wait and see what Sweeney can cook up this summer.
