The Boston Bruins made their final roster cuts before their 2025-26 season opener on Sunday. Defenseman Jonathan Aspirot, forward Matej Blumel, goaltender Michael DiPietro, and forward Alex Steeves were placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment to Providence of the American Hockey League. All are eligible to be claimed by another NHL team by Monday.
Center Matt Poitras was assigned to the AHL and will report to Providence training camp. The 21-year-old forward scored 17 goals and collected 24 assists in 40 games for Providence last season. The 2022 second round draft pick has six goals and 20 assists in 66 NHL games.
The Bruins open the season on Wednesday at Washington as they take on the Capitals. Boston missed the postseason for the first time in nine years last season.
