Boston Bruins general nanager Don Sweeney on Friday announced an unexpected transaction as the team has signed forward Mark Kastelic to a three-year contract extension which will carry a $1.567 million AAV until the 2027-28 season.
The Boston Bruins acquired Mark Kastelic in the offseason when they traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. Along with Kastelic, the Bruins also acquired Joonas Korpisalo and the Senators' first-round draft pick.
Many people were not a fan of this trade, but Kastelic has quickly became a fan favourite among Bruins fans.
The 25-year-old has appeared in 39 games for the Bruins this season, and began the season red hot, but has since slowed down. He has four goals and seven assists for 11 points and led the team in points at the beginning of the season.
He also leads the team in hits with 151 this year, and is also tied for first in penalty minutes with teammate Nikita Zadorov, who was also acquired in the offseason by the Bruins.
Kastelic currently sits a plus-4 on the season and is tied for fourth in plus-minus on the Bruins. He also sits second in the NHL in hits, fourth in hits per 60 minutes among other players who have played a minimum on 25 games this season.
In his 183 career games split between the Boston Bruins organization and the Ottawa Senators organization, Mark Kastelic has 18 career goals and 18 career assists for 36 career points along with 255 penalty minutes.
