The 2025 NHL Draft is shaping up to be a good return for the Boston Bruins as top pick James Hagens and Boston College teammate Will Moore lead the way. Hagens has tallied 14 goals and 14 assists in 22 games after being selected seventh overall by Boston. Moore, drafted 51st overall, has contributed four goals and six assists in his freshman season. Hagens is a Hobey Baker nominee as college hockey’s best player. Both players have been added to a prospect pool that is improving. However, there is an intriguing fifth-round pick who is excelling in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.’

Cole Chandler is an 18-year-old forward who is having an excellent second season in the “Q” and is providing promising offensive numbers. Chandler is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound left wing who pursues the puck and shoots it at a high level. Last season, the Nova Scotia native scored 13 goals with 19 assists for Shawinigan in 64 games. Chandler flourished in the postseason with five goals and seven assists. This season has been a breakout campaign for Chandler.

In his last ten games, Chandler has five goals and five assists, and has totaled 17 goals and 25 assists in 46 games. The Bruins had another Nova Scotia left wing for many years, Brad Marchand, and need help at the wing since the “Little Ball of Hate” departed last season. Chandler has committed to Northeastern University for the upcoming season and will play in Boston as a freshman.

Chandler is a hard-working player who competes with a high motor. Scouting reports say that Chandler is a good defensive player for his age group and that his offensive game is improving dramatically. The Bruins would love to develop a forward or two from late in their drafts, and Chandler could be someone who surprises people.

Chander won a Gold Medal in the World Hockey Championships in 2024 with the U17 Canadian team, contributing two assists. Turning 19 in May, Chandler will be able to take his game to the next level in a highly competitive Hockey East Conference next season, competing against other Bruins prospects at Boston College and Boston University, among others.

Chandler is still a good three to four years away from professional hockey, but the progress he has shown is encouraging. The forward is now a top player in the “Q” and a good get from the Bruins’ scouting department. Chandler should be someone to watch this summer in Bruins’ Development Camp.
