The Boston Bruins placed forward Michael Eyssimont on waivers Sunday while they continue early-season roster adjustments.
The transaction surfaced in the afternoon as many area fans followed the New England Patriots against the Buffalo Bills.
Eyssimont has played 269 regular season games in the NHL and is not automatically lost to the organization. If he clears, Boston can assign him to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
League rules required the waiver step because of his experience before any move off the NHL roster. Another team can claim him during the process and take him for nothing in return.
The Bruins opened the year 2-1-0, beating the New York Rangers and Winnipeg Jets before a loss at Minnesota.
Eyssimont played at St. Cloud State after the Los Angeles Kings chose him in the fifth round, 142nd overall, in the 2016 draft. He never dressed for a Kings game.
His first NHL appearance came with Winnipeg in one contest during the 2021-22 season. He then played for the Jets, San Jose Sharks and Tampa Bay Lightning across the 2022-23 season, totaling 15 points in 54 games.
His best year followed in 2023-24, when he scored 11 goals and added 14 assists for 25 points in 81 games with Tampa Bay. He split 2024-25 between the Lightning and Seattle Kraken, combining for nine goals and 16 points in 77 games.
With Boston last season he had eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 56 games, plus a minus-3 rating. Career totals stand at 33 goals, 41 assists and 74 points, with a plus-8 mark and 261 penalty minutes in those 269 games.
He recorded 135 hits in 2023-24 and 110 hits in 2024-25, giving him two seasons of at least 100 hits.
The 30-year-old, born Sept. 9, 1996, signed a two-year deal worth $2.9 million with Boston on July 1, 2025. He appeared in two playoff games for the Bruins last spring and has 10 career postseason appearances.
Average ice time has settled near 11 minutes per game over his NHL career.
Boston listed him on its opening-night roster in late September before the latest cut. The club has already moved several other players through waivers or to Providence during camp.
A claim would remove both the player and his remaining contract from Boston’s books. Clearing waivers would keep the physical forward inside the organization for a possible recall.
The Bruins are scheduled to learn the outcome of the waiver wire on Monday.
