Brad Marchand is one of the top free agents available, and after plenty of speculation, he's now officially signed what may be his final contract in the NHL, inking a massive deal with the Florida Panthers
On the eve of free agency, there was a stunning update in Brad Marchand's new contract situation, as it was revealed that the Maple Leafs were prepared to offer him as much as $9 million annually on a new deal.
After all that speculation, Marchand has now officially signed what could be his last contract in the National Hockey League, agreeing to a six-year, $32 million total deal with the Florida Panthers.
This comes on the back of his first season away from the Boston Bruins where he tallied an incredible 10 goals and 20 points in 23 post-season games, helping the Panthers to their second Stanley Cup in a row and their second in franchise history.
After reports that revealed Marchand was indeed wanting to re-sign with the Panthers in free agency following his successful first stint with the team, he's now remained loyal to them, giving himself the opportunity to win his third Stanley Cup in his illustrious career.
Despite being 37-years of age, Marchand is still incredibly effective at the NHL level, and although he's not going to be a 100-point player at this stage of his career, he can impact winning at the most important time of the year.
With this move, the Panthers have solidified themselves as front runners to win the Stanley Cup and with Marchand looking to end his career on a high, expect a few good seasons from him.
