Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand became a major talking point on Thursday night after he exited the game early against the St. Louis Blues due to an undisclosed injury. Marchand did not return for the third period, immediately raising concerns not just for the Panthers but also for Team Canada, with the Winter Olympics less than a week away. The veteran forward is part of Canada’s roster for the upcoming Winter Olympics, which begin on February 4.
The 37-year-old winger logged 11:19 minutes of ice time during the first two periods. While Marchand was active early, he was noticeably absent in the final frame as the Panthers went on to lose a tight contest 5-4.
Following the game, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice told reporters that Marchand will be evaluated by the team’s medical staff “tonight and tomorrow.” No further details were provided, leaving his status unclear for the coming days.

Marchand’s injury comes at a difficult time for Florida, and it could not be worse timing for Team Canada. The national team is already dealing with injury concerns, as goaltender Logan Thompson is currently listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Notably, this is also not the first time Marchand has dealt with injuries this season. Earlier in January, he missed seven games due to another unspecified injury.
Marchand, who recently reached the 1000th point mark in the NHL, joined the Panthers from the Boston Bruins at the 2025 trade deadline and quickly became a key part of the group. He went on to win the Stanley Cup with Florida later that same year. This season, he has been one of the Panthers’ most productive forwards, recording 25 goals and 50 points in just 45 games.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are currently struggling to stay in the playoff race. They sit outside the Eastern Conference playoff picture with a 28-22-3 record, with just 29 games remaining.
For now, all eyes will be on the Panthers’ medical updates. Until more clarity emerges, both Florida and Team Canada will be holding their breath.
