Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk had a tough message for sports betters who thought they could get him to refund their missed wagers.
Sports betting has taken off since it was recently legalized, but a few wager makers took things a bit too far when they thought they could get Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk to reimburse them for their missed bets.
Tkachuk stated during an interview with ESPN's Greg Wyshynski that he was forced to change his personal Venmo information because of the number of requests he got from sports bettors who thought he'd refund them.
Not even like winning or scoring, it's like my shots or my hits. I eventually had to change my name - my Venmo, I mean, I had it in college. There's a selfie of me and my name so, people got a hold of that so I had to change my name on it and I had to take down my profile picture. Now when I Venmo people they're like, 'Who the hell is Venmo-ing me?'
Honestly it's funny because it's like, people really think I'm going to send them money like for the shots.I'm more pissed that we didn't win the game or score or whatever it may be, like I could care less about not hitting the four, four and a half or whatever the cover is for the bet, like the parlay for scoring. Do you really think I care about your parlay?
Tkachuk also then said that he's absolutely never sent money to any of those sports bettors, acknowledging that he'd face massive punishment from the NHL if he had.
One member of the Senators already faced stiff punishment from the NHL for a violation of their gambling policy.
Shane Pinto was suspended for literally half the season, a total of 41 games, in October 2023, something he apologized for.
It was all the more ironic, considering the Senators' helmet sponsor is Betway, an international gambling company.
