The penalty occurred with 10:01 remaining in the first period. Tkachuk would later commit another penalty in the first period that led to a fight with Sabres’ Logan Stanley.
The Sabres used this momentum to take a 1-0 lead in the second period. However, the Senators scored four straight unanswered goals, including two empty-netters, to win 4-1. Tkachuk recorded one assist in the win.
The Senators currently hold the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with 88 points. The Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets also have 88 points, but the Senators hold the tiebreaker for now.
