Brady Tkachuk Says Problematic Podcast Comments Got Twisted

Brady Tkachuk addressed the controversy surrounding the podcast interview with his father, Keith Tkachuk, saying the situation has been blown out of proportion.

The interview has garnered a ton of attention, and all for the wrong reasons. Keith Tkachuk took a shot at lazy professional athletes, seemingly aimed at Linus Ullmark and the Ottawa Senators. Given that Brady is the captain of the Senators, it was not a good look, especially when Brady laughed at the insults.

Keith Tkachuk appeared on the Wingmen podcast. While discussing NHL toughness and injuries, he said: “You play through injuries. Holy Christ, [Brady’s] whole team: ‘Ah, my pinky hurts. I’m out for 6-8 weeks.’ ‘I just had a bad sleep, so I can’t play today.’ ‘I can’t play back-to-backs.’ ‘Rest management.’ Disgusting.” It sparked debate as a shot at the Ottawa Senators (specifically goalie Linus Ullmark’s recent absence).

Brady Responds, Saying It Wasn’t Aimed at Ottawa

Brady is now suggesting the comments from his dad were aimed at the Florida Panthers’ load management.

“Being a part of it and after watching it back, I thought it was pretty clear he was talking about Florida,” Tkachuk said. “I don’t really know how it got turned or misconstrued, but you know what happens. But I mean, I know in there I thought it was clear as they were talking about Florida, but a lot of all that other stuff, and just people taking it and twisting it, just nothing I can do about it.”

Tkachuk added that he spoke with his father afterward and didn’t feel there was any intent to take a shot at anyone.

“I talked to him after, and there was no shot at anyone. I don’t know how it got twisted to this point where we’re having to talk about it now. To me, it was clear as day he was talking about the Florida Panthers.”

When pushed for a little more, Brady seemed to get annoyed. “I’ve answered this a couple of times now. People are going to interpret things how they want, but I know what was said and what I was part of. A lot of the things being suggested didn’t come out of my mouth.”

Brady Is Standing By His Father, Not the Senators

Tkachuk also made it clear he supports his father and isn’t going to speak for him.

“I completely respect my dad. He’s going to be a Hall of Famer so, I mean, I’m not going to put words in his mouth or explain what he what he said. If you know him, he’s an outgoing guy, says kind of what he thinks, and I know it’s comes from a good place.”

It will be intriguing to see how fans react to Brady’s comments. Some won’t buy it. Others won’t care. Will this story be forgotten about in a few days as the Senators try to make the playoffs? Or, does this thing take on a life of its own?
