Bruins add to depth, sign Riley Tufte, Jonathan Aspirate and Luke Cavallin

Forward Riley Tufte signed a one-year, two-way deal with an NHL cap hit of $775,000. The 27-year-old played 58 games with the AHL’s Providence Bruins in 2024-25, scoring 21 goals and 21 assists for 42 points. He also appeared in six NHL games last season with the Bruins.

Through six AHL seasons, Tufte recorded 79 goals and 87 assists for 166 points in 331 career AHL regular-season games with the Bruins, Colorado Eagles and Texas Stars. He also has two goals and an assist for three points in 24 career NHL games with the Bruins, Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars.

Defenseman Jonathan Aspirate also signed with Boston, inking a one-year, two-way contract with an NHL cap hit of $775,000. He appeared in 55 regular-season games with the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers last season, recording five goals and 24 assists for 29 points.

The Mascouche, Que., native has played seven AHL seasons, scoring 30 goals and 95 assists for 125 points in 292 career regular-season games with the Wranglers and Belleville Senators.

Goaltender Luke Cavallin signed a one-year, two-way contract with an NHL cap hit of $775,000. The 24-year-old netminder spent most of the 2024-25 season with the ECHL’s Trois-Rivieres Lions, recording a 19-10-2 record with a 2.13 goals against average (GAA) and .929 save percentage (SV%). In 91 career ECHL games, he’s recorded a 58-25-6 record with a .921 SV% and 2.51 GAA.

The Bruins went 33-39-10 with 76 points in 2024-25, finishing last in the Atlantic Division and second last in the Eastern Conference. David Pastrnak led Boston in all offensive categories with 43 goals and 63 assists for 106 points.

Last week, the Bruins selected James Hagens No. 7 overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. In 2024-25, Hagens scored 11 goals and 26 assists for 37 points in 37 games as a freshman with Boston College in the NCAA. Before that, the Hauppauge, N.Y., native had spent two seasons with the U.S. National Development Team in the USHL, scoring 35 goals and 52 assists for 87 points in 57 games.
