Bruins Announce Several Hockey Operations Department Hires

The Boston Bruins are underway tonight for their 102nd season in history, and with it comes news of several new hires in their Hockey Operations department.

Dean Malkoc has been named as Pro Scout after his previous title of Associate Director of Amateur Scouting, one he held for the past four years. The 56-year-old skated in 116 NHL games from 1995-1999, including 73 with the Bruins, as a stay-at-home defenseman willing to rack up penalty minutes. Hanging up his skates after a stop with the Islanders, Malkoc has deep roots with Boston, as he’s been with the organization in some capacity for 20 years.

Josh Pohlkamp-Hartt has been named Director of Hockey Analytics, a nice promotion from Associate Director, which he was from 2023-26. Coming into his eighth season with the organization, Pohlkamp-Hartt builds models that are applied to scouting/prospect evaluation all the way to actual in-game strategy for the B’s.

Kyle Chauvette gets to take on an exciting new role as the official Emergency Backup Goaltender, also contributing as a Video Scout. With the NHL now allowing teams to staff their own “EBUGs” who can travel with the team, the 24-year-old is quite an accomplished one as a four year Division I goalie at Union College as well as New Hampshire. Having just concluded his own formal playing career, Chauvette was USHL teammates with Boston 24-year-old prospect Riley Duran. While nobody truly hopes a situation ever arises where he’d be needed to strap on the pads and take the crease for the Bruins, it would be quite a story for the New Hampshire native, and either way he has a lot to offer the organization on the heels of an impressive collegiate career. He already served as an emergency backup once, called upon by San Jose last March.

Josh Cooper and Leland Mack join the franchise as amateur scouts, Cooper focusing on the OHL after working with the league’s London Knights. Mack’s emphasis will be on the WHL, coming along from the league as former Director of Scouting for the Prince George Cougars.

Rounding out the bunch, Cam Wolbach has been named Team Operations and Video Coordinator for the AHL’s Providence Bruins, as a navive of South Groveland, Massachusetts. Joining him in Rhode Island is Benjamin Snyder, Assistant Video Coordinator, a nice step into the professional rank after serving as a Student Manager for the University of Connecticut’s Division I team. Aidan Matthews is their new Team Services and Operations Specialist, offering a unique background coming from a role in operations with the Savannah Bananas, a barnstorming baseball team and viral sensation. Finally, Amanda Feldman takes on the important role of Team Dietitian, moving over to the Bruins from her past three years in the same role with the Boston Fleet of the PWHL, a graduate of Boston University.
