Some roster moves in Beantown, with a young player staying on the shelf for a little bit.

On Saturday, the Boston Bruins announced that forward James Hagens has been placed on injured reserve. In response, the team called up forward Mikey Eyssimont from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

Hagens is listed out with an undisclosed injury, with his placement on IR retroactive to Nov. 5. That night, the Bruins took on the Pittsburgh Penguins. In the second period, Hagens received a cross-check to his side from Penguins defenseman Samuel Girard. Hagens went down the tunnel to the Boston locker room, but did not return. The Bruins went on to win the contest, 5-2.

Per the league’s IR rules, Hagens could return as early as next Saturday, when the Bruins host the Minnesota Wild. However, the team is considering the former Boston College star to be week-to-week.

For the B’s, Hagens’ absence puts a damper on what has been an impressive start to his rookie season. Through 17 games, the 20-year-old has scored six goals and six assists for 12 points, sitting tied for second on the team in goals and tied for fifth in overall scoring. His efforts have helped put Boston up with the top teams in the Atlantic Division through one month of the 2026-27 campaign.

Despite playing 56 games with the Bruins last year, Eyssimont has started this season in the AHL, but has been productive. In eight games with Providence, the 30-year-old has notched 13 goals and 16 points, both team highs through the first month of the year. In 2025-26 with Boston, Eyssimont registered eight goals and 18 points in 56 games, both the second-most in his tenure in the NHL.

The Bruins (12-4-1) currently lead the Atlantic, two points ahead of the Montreal Canadiens. Boston is off until Sunday, when they host the Florida Panthers.
