Bruins re-sign Patrice Bergeron to one-year, $2.5M contract

Bruins re-sign All-Star C Patrice Bergeron to one-year, $2.5M contract

The Boston Bruins captain is coming back for his 19th NHL season with the franchise.

In mid-May, soon after the Bruins' season ended at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes in the opening round of the playoffs, Bergeron said he would either retire or re-sign with the Bruins. It was reported in June that the 37-year-old would be returning to Boston, likely on a one-year contract.

Bergeron is coming off of season in which he scored 25 goals and added 40 assists for 65 points, while earning his third All-Star honor but first since 2016. He also won the Frank J. Selke Trophy -- awarded to the top defensive forward -- for the fifth time in his career, which broke a tie with Hall of Famer Bob Gainey for the most Selke trophies in NHL history.

During the 2021-2022 campaign, Bergeron finished second on the team in plus/minus (26), power play goals (eight) and shots on goals (293), while finishing third in points.
