As first reported by Daily Faceoff’s Anthony Di Marco, the Boston Bruins have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with forward Alex Steeves.
PuckPedia reported that Bruins general manager Don Sweeney and Steeves’ representation landed on a salary of $850,000 for the contract.
A native of Benford, New Hampshire, Steeves comes home to the New England area after a lengthy tenure as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs‘ organization.
Steeves is an offensively gifted forward who has developed an outstanding knack for producing at a high volume at the AHL level.
During his 59 games with the Toronto Marlies in 2024-2025, he scored 36 goals and dished out 26 assists for 62 points.
The year prior, he had 27 goals and 30 assists for 57 points in 65 games, and in 2022-2023, he was good for 19 goals in 65 contests with the Marlies.
Steeves got chances at the NHL with the Maple Leafs here and there over the past few seasons, and he scored his first career NHL goal this past season.
Assuming Steeves spends the majority of his time in the AHL with the Providence Bruins, he will represent a massive upgrade on the roster as a top-end scorer.
Providence did not have any single player score over 21 goals, a mark reached by all of Vinni Lettieri, Tyler Pitlick and Riley Tufte.
Sweeney and the Bruins have been hard at work adding to their roster on this July 1. Notably, the team handed a lucrative contract to bottom six winger Tanner Jeannot in a bid to add toughness to the roster.
The Bruins are coming off a season in which they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2015-2016. The group wrapped up the campaign with a record of 33-39-10, placing them in last in the Atlantic Division.
