The Boston Bruins have signed forward Alex Steeves to a two-year contract extension, the club announced Wednesday afternoon.

Steeves, 26, has collected eight goals and 14 points in 33 games with the Bruins this year. His new contract with the team carries a $1.625 million cap hit for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons.

The Bruins originally signed Steeves to a one-year, $850,000 contract as a Group 6 unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2025. The St. Paul, Minnesota product had been slated to become a Group 6 UFA once again upon the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.

An undrafted player, Steeves played his NCAA hockey at Notre Dame after a successful tenure with the USHL’s Dubuque Fighting Saints. After three years at school, the 6’0″ center signed an entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2021.

Steeves spent four seasons in the Maple Leafs organization to begin his pro career, playing primarily with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies and drawing into just 14 NHL contests over that span. Nevertheless, he established himself as a top-tier AHL scorer and positioned himself as an intriguing buy-low type in free agency last summer.

After collecting eight points in nine games with the AHL’s Providence Bruins early in the 2025-26 season, Steeves earned a promotion to Boston and has remained a fixture in their lineup ever since. He has spent considerable time on a line with fellow Toronto castoff Fraser Minten, who came to Boston in the Brandon Carlo trade late in the 2024-25 season.

Through 47 career games over parts of five seasons split between the Maple Leafs and Bruins, Steeves has collected eight goals and 14 points. With his new contract now signed and filed, Steeves will return to action on Thursday as the Bruins take on the Vegas Golden Knights at TD Garden in Boston.
