Back in 2022-23, the Boston Bruins put together a historic regular season, and in that campaign, their success was led by veterans like Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci.
However, that veteran core is all but gone now, and while Pastrnak remains, this is a team that has undergone plenty of change, with the front office mostly looking for veterans to fill the void. This past season though, the team saw some breakout seasons from their young names, most notably with Morgan Geekie and Fraser Minten, who proved they could be part of a long-term solution in Boston.
One name that has intrigued many Bruins fans is Lukas Reichel, who was traded not once, but twice a season ago, going from Chicago to Vancouver and eventually to Boston for the final 10 games of the season.
In that time, the 23-year-old, former No. 17 overall selection flashed potential, tallying 1 goal, 3 points and a +2 differential for Boston as they finished the season strong by qualifying for the post-season. On Thursday, the team showed their intentions, as they announced a one-year extension for Reichel, who has always had the potential, but as of yet has failed to live up to it at the NHL level.
The #NHLBruins have signed forward Lukas Reichel to a one-year contract extension through the 2026-27 season.

The one-year extension carries with it a salary cap hit of $950,000, and with Boston needing young players to step up and become key pieces of the lineup, Reichel will be given every opportunity to win a role in the top-nine.
Already this off-season, President Cam Neely has noted the need for a 1C and the need to get younger, and while Reichel doesn't fill the first void, he could be a valuable piece long-term for Boston if he can find his footing at the NHL level.
