Welcome back to The Win Column  Calgary Flames Prospect Rankings. Next, we’ll be discussing our second honourable mention, Luke Misa. The 19-year-old was drafted 150th overall by the Flames in the 2024 NHL Draft. He dropped out of our 2025 rankings after finishing 12th in the previous year.

Misa and his development so far

Season Team GP G A P
2023-24 Mississauga Steelheads 66 26 55 81
2024-25 Brampton Steelheads 67 34 51 85

Misa has shown immense growth in his D+1 season. In his draft year, he put up an impressive 26 goals and 81 points with the Mississauga (now Brampton) Steelheads. This season, he built off his success, scoring 34 goals and 85 points, finishing third on the team in scoring.

Despite being selected in the fifth round, Misa was considered to be a steal given where he was drafted. It’s also important how he’s listed as a centre, as the Flames lack organizational depth down the middle. His growth in the OHL has been more than promising, increasing his production every season.

Being the older brother of 2025 second-overall pick Michael Misa, there’s no doubt that talent runs within their family. Misa will be exiting the OHL as he’s committed to Penn State University for the 2025–26 season. Playing NCAA hockey will only challenge Misa’s skill set, as he’ll be playing against tougher competition in hopes that it’ll help with the next steps of his development. It’s also a perk that Misa will be playing alongside top prospect Gavin McKenna, who’s the consensus first-overall pick for the 2026 NHL Draft.

Misa’s strengths and weaknesses

Being only 19, Misa has much more room to grow. He’s a crafty playmaker who strongly contributes to offence, but it also a defensively responsible player. Misa also possesses high-end speed and skating abilities, as well as strong puck-handling skills paired with elite hockey IQ.

With that being said, Misa is undersized, referring to NHL standards, coming in at 5’10”. He’ll have to put up more strength to compensate for his lack of size, as his skill already does that quite well. It’s also recommended that Misa work on his shot accuracy and overall consistency to be prepared for higher levels of hockey.

The next steps for Misa

Drafting Misa was a smart move by the Flames. Getting a player with his skill set in the later rounds of the draft has the potential to turn into a “diamond in the rough” type of situation. Flames fans are quite high on Misa, as they rightly should be.

Most projections on Misa indicate he’ll likely be a middle-six forward in the NHL. If the Flames can develop Misa as a centre, he’d be a fantastic option for the team’s depth down the middle.

As mentioned, going to college will be huge for Misa’s development. Being in an NCAA environment will do wonders for his game and potential. In summary, don’t be surprised if Misa takes a bigger step than initially thought.
