Calgary Flames Announce Pre-Season Matchup With Heated Rival

While it hasn't yet officially been announced by the Flames on social media, reports have revealed that the team will take on the Edmonton Oilers on September 14th in a prospect battle that will see some of the most exciting players in both organizations go head-to-head.

According to Sportsnet's Eric Francis, the game will take place at the Saddledome at 6PM on September 14th, and while most wouldn't want to pay for tickets to a pre-season prospects matchup, given that the proceeds of the game go to the Flames Foundation, it seems to be a win all-round for the organization.

Flames Prospects to get the Spotlight Against the Oilers

Unfortunately, most of the Flames top prospets won't be in attendance for the game, as Cole Reschny, Carson Carels, Cole Reschny, Ethan Wyttenbach, Jack Hextall, Cullen Potter, Henry Mews and others will all be at their college both taking classes and getting ready for the 2026/27 season ahead. On top of that, the likes of Theo Stockselius will also likely not be there as they get ready for the season ahead in Europe, with those names showing just how deep this prospect pool truly is.

However, that doesn't mean there'll be a lack of talent for the Flames, as the team will still feature the likes of Andrew Basha, Abram Wiebe, Jonathan Castagna, Max Curran, Joe Iginla and many others that could make up key pieces of the future.

While the Oilers group isn't quite as deep as the Flames, they still have some intriguing pieces, and even if the Flames top stars aren't in attendance, this is still a matchup that Flames fans should support, as it could give them a major glimpse into the future of the organization.
