Halloween is here, and nothing has been scarier this season than the Calgary Flames play on the ice. Sitting last place in the NHL and hanging onto their playoff hopes by a thread, it’s time to lighten the mood a bit and have some fun. In honour of the spookiest day of the year, here are some Calgary Flames players and their horror character counterparts in honour of Halloween.

Yegor Sharangovich – Casper the Friendly Ghost

Much like Casper, Yegor Sharangovich has a bubbly, fun personality as evidenced by his avid Lego collection and light-hearted mood in interviews. Also like Casper, he is prone to completely disappear without a trace and go ghost mode on most nights.

Jonathan Huberdeau – Freddy Krueger

Freddy is known to haunt people’s dreams, appearing at night while his victims are fast asleep. He causes sleepless nights and terrifying nightmares. Much like Jonathan Huberdeau, who’s current contract haunts Flames fans dreams and keeps us all up at night with ghastly nightmares of the NHL’s worst contract.

Ryan Huska – Nosferatu

Nosferatu is one of horror’s original villains, lurking at night with his shiny bald head. Known for sucking the life out of his victims and leaving them a shell of their former selves. Much like Ryan Huska, who is an expert at sucking the life and fun out of the Flames offence, leaving them a shell of their former 2021-22 selves.

Martin Pospisil – Chucky

We haven’t seen Martin Pospisil on the ice this year, but when he’s playing there’s no better comparison than Chucky. Feisty, mischievous and an expert at getting under people’s skin and starting trouble, Pospisil and Chucky have a lot in common.

Mikael Backlund – The Invisible Man

Much like the Invisible Man, you may not always notice Mikael Backlund out on the ice but make no mistake, he’s making an impact. An expert at blending in and pulling strings without making a scene, Backlund has made a career out of quietly impacting the game every night and altering the outcome behind the scenes.

Dustin Wolf – Werewolf

I mean, there isn’t a whole lot of explaining needed here. Much like a Werewolf, Dustin Wolf comes out at night and transforms into a beast, crushing his opposition and impacting the game with a ferocious mentality.

Zayne Parekh – The Babadook

Zayne Parekh hasn’t fully established himself just yet, but much like the Babadook he’s lurking in the shadows waiting for his opportunity to strike. Jake Bean and Brayden Pachal better watch their back, because Parekh is waiting and ready to pounce at the earliest opportunity to take their full-time spot in the Flames lineup.

Blake Coleman – Michael Myers

Cold, stoic, and methodical in his approach. Much like Michael Myers, Blake Coleman keeps his emotions in check to get the job done. A true veteran of the game with a stacked resume, Coleman is quiet killer on the ice who is always straight to business.

Sam Honzek – Frankenstein’s Monster

Frankenstein’s monster is an opposing, hulking presence held together by strings, staples and stiches. While he may not be the most durable, he’s sure to be a force. Not too dissimilar to Sam Honzek, who has encountered numerous major injuries in his short career which has raised some durability concerns. Despite this he has managed to be an imposing force this season.
