The Calgary Flames have traded Nazem Kadri to the Colorado Avalanche. Kadri has been the subject of rumours in the NHL since it became obvious that the Flames are considering this to be a lost season. Kadri’s contract is a $7 million cap hit for the next three seasons after this one. Calgary was also adamant about not retaining on his contract.

While Nazem Kadri has stated he enjoys his time in Calgary, his competitive nature has led to him being open to a move to a Stanley Cup contender. His contract includes a 13-team no-trade clause that took effect at the beginning of this season.
Nazem Kadri has been in the NHL for a long time, with 1,046 games under his belt. Along with winning hockey’s greatest prize in 2022, Kadri brings tenacity and drive to win that has propelled him to a fantastic career so far. He’s also a playoff performer, playing in 52 playoff games and putting up 44 points in those games. Nazem Kadri is the perfect addition to any team looking to add a level of grit and skill for a deep playoff run. He also has an uncanny ability to draw all kinds of penalties, the majority of those coming from purely outworking his opponent.
The Calgary Flames are continuing the process of getting younger while continuing to be competitive. While the loss of Kadri from the roster is a massive blow, the upside is in the future of prospects such as Cole Reschny, who could find himself on the Flames roster after his season at the University of North Dakota comes to an end. The future of the Flames is bright, with prospects that are performing well in the NCAA and at the major junior level as well.
With the Flames, Kadri has played 307 games, with 239 points. Kadri signed with the Flames as a free agent in 2022, for seven years for $49 million.
