Calle Jarnkrok Signs With Brynäs IF In Sweden

According to a team announcement, Calle Jarnkrok has signed with Brynäs IF in the SHL.

The soon-to-be 35-year-old forward returns to where it all began, signing a three-year contract with his boyhood club through 2028-29, which he had played for from 2007 to 2013. He ends a stretch of 13-straight professional seasons in the NHL.

This past year, Jarnkrok was in the final year of a four-year, $2.1MM AAV deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He scored eight points in 56 games. The season before added up to a lackluster final two years of his contract. 2024-25 saw a sports hernia injury that limited him to 19 games, nowhere near the 20-30 point player he provided throughout his career as an NHL bottom-six forward, and also was taking minutes that might have gone to younger talent. He played 774 total NHL games, tallying 316 points across that span.

Before posting a career-high 39 points in his first season with Toronto, the former 2010 2nd-round pick from Detroit never played a game in the winged wheel. He was dealt to the Nashville Predators in 2014, where two years later, he would sign his longest deal, a six-year, $2MM AAV contract to remain in Nashville. The first season of that contract was a highlight of his career, where, at age 25, his seven points in 21 playoff games culminated in helping the Predators make their first Stanley Cup Final since league entry in 1998. After multiple campaigns in Nashville as a successful depth scoring option, he was left available to be taken 22nd overall in the Expansion Draft back in 2021 by the Seattle Kraken. Jarnkrok later finished his shortest stint with an NHL team with the Calgary Flames after being traded there from the Kraken. After that, he’d sign in Toronto in 2022.
