Canadiens Goaltender Has Been Linked to the Ottawa Senators in Potential Trade

Last week, Cayden Primeau went through the waivers process without being claimed by an NHL team.

But according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen, this lack of selection doesn't necessarily mean there's no interest in the goalie within the NHL.

The young man's name is reportedly being mentioned by a specific team in dire need of a goaltender.

The new Ottawa Senators goaltender, Linus Ullmark, is one of the main reasons for the team's success this season.

Thanks to his performances, the Sens have managed to stay afloat and remain in the playoff race.

However, Ullmark was recently injured, and it was announced he would be evaluated on a weekly basis.

This means he could be out for a significant amount of time, and his absence could be deeply felt.

Senators GM Steve Staios may need to take action to keep his team's playoff hopes alive.

The fact remains that few goalies are currently available, but there are some.

According to Garrioch, three goaltenders, including Cayden Primeau, are on the list of possible replacements for Ullmark.

"After checking with a team executive and an insider, the names mentioned to us were John Gibson from Anaheim, Cayden Primeau from Montreal, and James Reimer from Buffalo."

Cayden Primeau had a strong start with the Laval Rocket

Last Friday, in the Laval Rocket's first game of 2025, Pascal Vincent sent Primeau to guard the net.

The goaltender, despite a bizarre goal, had an excellent game.

He finished the match not only with 27 saves but also as the game's first star.

If he can regain some confidence in the AHL, he could come back stronger-especially with a change of scenery and atmosphere.

The question remains: will Kent Hughes, who was ready to lose him for nothing last week, now be willing to trade him?
