Canadiens sign Sean Farrell, Marc Del Gaizo to one-year contracts

The Montreal Canadiens announced Wednesday that the club has signed center Sean Farrell and defenseman Marc Del Gaizo to one-year, two-way contracts.

In 67 appearances last season with the AHL affiliated Laval Rocket, Farrell recorded 20 goals and 24 assists for 44 points to finish fourth in team scoring. The 23-year-old native of Hopkinton, Mass., then added another 10 points counting three goals and seven assists in 13 playoff outings.

Originally chosen by the Canadiens in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Farrell has since skated in two seasons with the Rockets where in 114 career contests he has collected 29 goals and 43 assists for 72 points. In 2022-23, Farrell made his NHL debut with the Canadiens, seeing six games in which he finished with one goal and a minus-two rating.

A graduate of the ECAC’s Harvard Crimson, Farrell completed two seasons in the collegiate ranks from 2021-23 totaling 58 appearances in which he tallied 30 goals and 51 assists for 81 points. Prior to committing to the Crimson, Farrell helped the USHL’s Chicago Steel capture the Clark Cup, putting up 10 points in eight games en route to the championship. That season also saw Farrell recognized as the USHL’s Player of the Year after he recorded 101 points in only 53 games.

For Del Gaizo, the 25-year-old native of Baskin Ridge, N.J., joins the Canadiens after splitting last season between the Nashville Predators and AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals.

With the Predators, Del Gaizo scored twice and added seven assists for nine points in 46 games coupled with 21 penalty minutes and a minus-three rating while averaging more than 16 minutes of time on ice per game. With Milwaukee, Del Gaizo saw 30 showings in which he collected eight goals and four assists for 12 points.

A 2019 fourth-round selection by the Predators, Del Gaizo has totaled 55 career contests at the NHL level in which he has racked up two goals and 10 assists for 12 points.
