The Vancouver Canucks shared a key update on Marco Rossi just before their home game against the Seattle Kraken on Friday.
General manager Patrik Allvin confirmed that Rossi has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 30. The team also recalled forward Arshdeep Bains from Abbotsford to fill the open roster spot.
Rossi suffered a lower-body injury during Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. He was hurt in the third period and did not return for the remainder of the game. The timing adds another challenge for Vancouver, which enters the matchup with a 16-20-3 record, while Seattle arrives at 17-14-7 in a tight Pacific Division race.

The injury comes during a transition phase for the Canucks. Earlier in December, Vancouver reshaped its roster with a major trade that sent Quinn Hughes to Minnesota. Rossi arrived from the Wild as part of that deal and joined the team alongside Liam Ohgren and Zeev Buium. The group hit the ice for practice almost immediately, signaling a quick shift toward a new direction.
Since joining Vancouver on Dec. 12, Rossi has worked through an uneven offensive stretch. The 24-year-old center has one goal and one assist for Canucks. Overall, he has five goals and ten assists in 25 games this season. His minus-11 rating reflects some defensive concerns, but it also shows Canucks’ struggles. Rossi continues to play heavy minutes and stays active through speed, puck control, and smart reads.
Drafted with the No. 9 overall pick in 2020, Rossi built his game around pace and positioning rather than size. When healthy, he brings reliable two-way play and a consistent presence down the middle. Vancouver will hope his absence is short, as the Canucks prepare to face Seattle at 10:30 p.m. ET without one of their recent additions.
