Canucks 'Entertaining Trade Calls' on Star Forward Before Key Deadline

The Vancouver Canucks’ offseason is shaping up to be one of the busiest and most unpredictable in the NHL, with the franchise facing recent roster tension and major changes behind the bench.

Star forward Elias Pettersson, once viewed as a cornerstone piece, is now firmly on the trade market, according to NHL insider David Pagnotta.

With just weeks remaining before Pettersson's no-movement clause activates on July 1, Pagnotta reported that Vancouver will continue to take calls on the 26-year-old center.

Pagnotta also warned that the price to acquire Pettersson has not changed despite a down year in which his production dropped from 3.3 to 2.3 points per 60 minutes, marking a career low.

"The 26-year-old centre will see his no-movement clause kick-in July 1 and the belief across the NHL is the Canucks will continue to entertain trade calls," Pagnotta wrote. "It does not sound like the price tag has changed much, if at all, so a team will have to pay up to pry him out of B.C."

Buffalo is among the teams Pagnotta identified as a possible suitor entering the offseason after failing to make the playoffs for an NHL-record 14th consecutive season.

"I am curious to see if the Sabres circle back on Elias Pettersson in Vancouver," Pagnotta said. "Do the Sabres take another swing?

"They surely won’t be the lone team to try."

Pettersson recorded 45 points in 64 games this past season after signing an eight-year, $92.8 million extension.

Vancouver missed the playoffs, finishing 38–30–14 and fourth in the Western Conference's wild-card race.

The Canucks recently promoted Adam Foote to head coach following Rick Tocchet’s departure for the Flyers.
