Vancouver Canucks training camp is less than 24 hours away, and as a result, the Canucks news cycle has officially begun. On Wednesday morning, President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford, General Manager Patrik Allvin, and Head Coach Adam Foote met with the media at Rogers Arena before travelling to Penticton.
Asked for injury updates ahead of training camp, Allvin said that while players are still completing physicals, there are three players who won’t be quite ready for the start of camp.
First, Calder Cup champion and right-shot defenceman Jett Woo, who Allvin said will be out month to month.
“Jett Woo had a surgery here in early August, and probably will be out month to month. Looking more towards November,” said Allvin.
Next, Ty Mueller will also miss the start of camp, although he’s closer to returning than Woo is.
“Ty Mueller got injured and obviously was supposed to play in the rookie tournament here. Hopefully he’s back — I would imagine he’s back skating here this week and back in for practice next week.”
Mueller missing the start of camp takes out at least one person from the Canucks’ centre depth chart. A fourth round pick by the Canucks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Mueller enjoyed a successful first pro campaign with the Abbotsford Canucks last season. On top of being one of Abbotsford’s best penalty killers, Mueller put up 39 points in 64 regular season games and added 12 points through 24 playoff games. Mueller came in at 8th on our top 20 prospect ranking earlier this summer.
Finally, Allvin said that Anri Ravinskis is also close to returning from his injury.
“Ravinskis had hernia surgery early in the summer and has been here rehabbing now for, I think, a month, and he should be close to getting back here.”
The Canucks signed Ravinskis as a free agent this summer, and the 22-year-old carries an intriguing profile. You can read our in-depth look at Ravinskis by clicking here!
