The Vancouver Canucks remain in pursuit of Boston Bruins forward Pavel Zacha, but a trade may not be simple.

During Sportsnet's "Saturday Headlines" segment , Elliotte Friedman confirmed Vancouver’s long-standing interest in the 27-year-old center. saying the Canucks’ conversations with the Bruins date back months.

“My buddy Rick Dhaliwal reported that the Canucks contacted the Bruins about Zacha. That’s true,” Friedman said. “It’s been going on for some time. All the way back to the summer, the Canucks and the Bruins have been on and off about this.”

Friedman’s comments came two days after David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period also reported Vancouver’s connection to Zacha while appearing on Thursday's "Sekeres & Price Show."

According to Pagnotta, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney appears open to listening on Zacha, with Canucks executives Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford expected to stay involved.

“Boston is interesting. Casey Mittelstadt is out there out there again. Pavel Zacha was a player that they explored and took calls on last season,” Pagnotta said. “From the Canucks perspective, those are two players that would appeal.

“There are players they are exploring on and I would imagine that Boston would be a club that Allvin and Rutherford are going to at least poke on to see what the price tag would be for either of those players.”

Zacha is under contract through 2026–27 on a $4.75 million cap hit and carries an eight-team no-trade clause. Friedman noted Vancouver is not believed to be on that list.

“One thing about Vancouver in this case,” Friedman said. “I do not believe they’re on Zacha’s no-trade list.”

The Canucks have lost key centers to injury this month, with Filip Chytil and Teddy Blueger both sidelined. A deal, however, may still be difficult to strike, as Friedman made it clear that the Bruins have no urgency to move Zacha.

“Zacha is not in the last year of his deal. Boston doesn’t have to do anything it doesn’t want to do,” Friedman said.
