The Vancouver Canucks have selected centreman Kieran Dervin with the 65th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Dervin has a unique story. Similar to Dean Letourneau (Boston Bruins’ 2024 first-round pick), Dervin started his hockey season playing through the Canadian College ranks for St. Andrews. Over 99 games with the U18 AAA with St. Andrews, Dervin scored 46 goals and 78 assists for 124 points. Once he made the jump to the PHC (Prep Hockey Conference), Dervin finished as an over-a-point-per-game player with 25 points in 23 games.
Once that season was over, he joined the Kingston Frontenacs, managing to get in 10 games at the end of the regular season. The centreman tallied three points in the regular season and added another three points in 11 postseason games.
The organizational depth is trying to strengthen down the middle of the ice in this draft by selecting Braeden Cootes at 15, and now Dervin at 65. Aatu Räty, Max Sasson and Ty Mueller highlight the other centre prospects in the Canucks organization.
Here is what Daily Faceoff’s NHL Draft specialist, Steven Elli,s had to say regarding Kieran Dervin via X/Twitter:
“Kieren Dervin is a Canuck.
“Dervin is a two-way center who can play with just about anyone, showing a high level of versatility. He’s not afraid of anyone, no matter their size, and he’ll take you on physically – and often win, despite not being huge.
“Dervin is a decent skater, although he won’t be a burner at the next level. Instead, you like him for his all-around toolkit – he’s solid defensively and will battle to win every shift at the other end, too.”
The Canucks kicked off their drafting festivities on Friday night by selecting Seattle Thunderbirds centre Braeden Cootes. We wrote extensively about Cootes last night. To read Patrik Allvin’s comments about Cootes, click here. To read what Dave Hall wrote about Cootes, click here!
