Canucks Set to Trade Elias Petterson Pending One Major Requirement, per Elliotte Friedman

The Vancouver Canucks could look to trade Elias Pettersson this summer, and according to Elliotte Friedman, they'll only do so for one specific thing in return.

The 2024/25 campaign was a disaster for the Vancouver Canucks, and after entering the year with hopes of a Stanley Cup run, they ended up making massive changes to their core after struggling throughout the season.

While the team did break up the Elias Pettersson/J.T. Miller drama by trading the veteran forward, many still believe the team could look to trade Pettersson, who had a horrendous year in his own right.

Now, they may still look to do that this summer, as Elliotte Friedman has now addressed the situation involving EP40 in Vancouver, revealing the one thing that could make them trade the talented but underperforming star.

According to Friedman, the only thing that would make the Canucks trade Pettersson this off-season is the potential return of a star centre to replace him, and given the state of their roster, they'd need to get more in return to make a deal make sense.

With the team worried about Quinn Hughes' future in Vancouver, this off-season is absolutely crucial to the future of the team, and while trading Pettersson isn't the ideal move, if they can get a haul in return involving a centre, it's something they should consider.

Ultimately though, after the 2024/25 campaign that Pettersson had, tallying under 60 points for the first time in a full season in his career, his value is at an all-time low given his contract situation, so while a trade isn't expected, if a team steps up to the plate with a big offer, don't be surprised to see something happen soon.
