Canucks trade Bo Horvat to New York Islanders for Beauvillier, Raty, and a first round pick
? Bob Frid-USA TODAY Sports

Bo Horvat’s tenure as a Vancouver Canuck has officially come to an end.

On Monday afternoon, general manager Patrik Allvin announced that the club has acquired 25-year-old winger Anthony Beauvillier, 20-year-old centre Aatu Raty, and a protected 2023 1st round draft pick from the New York Islanders in exchange for captain Bo Horvat.

Horvat has been the subject of trade rumours for months now, with talks reportedly have heated up in recent weeks as the Canucks narrowed down what they could get from each of their potential suitors.

Horvat, 27, was drafted by the Canucks in 2013 when the team traded goaltender Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for the ninth overall pick. Horvat has cemented himself as a regular 20-goal scorer throughout his career, but in the past year and a half, Horvat has been scoring at well beyond a 40 goal rate. Through just 49 games this season, Horvat has already tied his career-high goal tally of 31, which he set last season over the course of 70 games.

As for the two players coming back to Vancouver, Aatu Raty was once thought to be a sure-fire top ten pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft but fell on numerous draft boards in the months leading up to the draft. The Islanders selected Raty with the 52nd overall pick in that draft. Raty made his NHL debut this season, scoring two goals in 12 games after tallying seven goals and eight assists with the Bridgeport Tigers of the AHL prior to being called up.

Beauvillier, meanwhile, was the 28th overall pick of the 2015 draft, and is signed this year and next on a contract that carries a cap hit of $4.15 million. Through 457 career NHL games, Beauvillier has 102 goals and 107 assists to his name.

It is unclear at this time what the condition attached to the 2023 first-round pick is.
