The Carolina Hurricanes have released a fantastic new hat as a part of a merchandise line, but now, they may be in hot water with the use of an interesting logo.
Coming from the former Hartford Whalers, the Carolina Hurricanes have some of the most beautiful logos and jerseys in the National Hockey League, with the team taking advantage of the reverse retro concept in recent years.
Unfortunately, a recent release may have landed them in hot water, as this recent post from MLBRaleigh on social media is rather self explanatory as to why they may be in trouble.
To the surprise of no one, many Montreal Canadiens fans in the comments were quick to comment now just how close, but how identical it is to the iconic Habs logo that has been around for over 100 years at this point.
Sure, it looks a little different, with the Hurricanes trying to incorporate the flags logo that we've seen from them in recent years, but for the most part, this decision could and should have them in hot water.
It's unclear if the Canadiens themselves will pursue any action, but even as a vintage logo (something that doesn't make sense for Carolina, as a team that's been around for less than 30 years), it's just a clear ripoff of one of the NHL's most iconic logos.
Ultimately, it's just a shock that something like this would even get released, and even if the Hurricanes didn't know every detail of this hat, the clear ripoff should have been an indicator not to go through with this, but now, we will wait and see what happens in this scenario as it continues to unfold.
