The Carolina Hurricanes are known for trading down, and they've now done it again as the Canadiens officially acquired pick No. 34 and a young Russian star in Alexander Zharovsky, who could be a genuine piece for this team in the future.

The second round of the 2025 NHL Draft has started incredibly fast, and with so many young, impressive talents still available, we're expected to see chaos on Saturday.

That started early, as the Carolina Hurricanes unsurprisingly traded back once again, this time with the Montreal Canadiens, who moved up to the No. 34 overall spot with a top prospect clearly in mind.

It's unclear exactly what the plan is for Carolina, as they have once again traded down and refused to use a pick, and at this point in time, it's unclear if they'll actually use one of these picks, as GM Eric Tulsky has become renowned for acquiring further assets rather than using their picks.

Montreal may have given up picks No. 41 and 49 in the process, but the Canadiens appear confident that this deal was worth it, as they moved up to select Russian star Alexander Zharovksy.

Many believe that Zharovsky is one of the best players in the draft that will be selected beyond round one, with many even seeing him as a first-round player given the immense talent despite the lack of size.

Ultimately, this was a deal that benefitted both teams, as Carolina get another two draft picks to make some moves with while the Canadiens got a talented young Russian that could join last years top pick in the organization as they continue to build something special.
