The 25-year-old scored 51 goals and recorded only seven minor penalties on the season. He finished ahead of three-time Lady Byng winner Anže Kopitar and Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson.
Caufield became the first 50-goal scorer for the Canadiens since Stephane Richer in 1990.
Caufield joins Mats Näslund and Toe Blake as the only Montreal Canadiens players to win the award since it was introduced in 1924-25.
