Cole Caufield is the 2026 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy winner, awarded “to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability.” The award is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

The 25-year-old scored 51 goals and recorded only seven minor penalties on the season. He finished ahead of three-time Lady Byng winner Anže Kopitar and Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson.

Caufield became the first 50-goal scorer for the Canadiens since Stephane Richer in 1990.

Caufield joins Mats Näslund and Toe Blake as the only Montreal Canadiens players to win the award since it was introduced in 1924-25.
