The Columbus Blue Jackets played back-to-back games this weekend. They hosted the New York Rangers on Saturday, October 17, then traveled to face the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, October 18. The latest Columbus Blue Jackets injury report available heading into the new week listed three players out, all on injured reserve.
That report had defensemen Ivan Provorov and Dante Fabbro and center Isac Lundestrom out of the lineup. Each had missed four games at that point, putting Columbus at 16 total man-games lost. The report noted the Blue Jackets were set to return home on Tuesday to host the Florida Panthers.
The Blue Jackets placed Provorov on injured reserve at the start of October. The team said he is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, and NHL.com’s status report carried the same designation.
Provorov was hurt blocking a shot in Columbus’ final preseason game on September 26. This marks the first time in his career that he has missed time.
Fabbro was injured in a preseason game in September and was ruled out for the rest of that contest. It was later reported he will miss time with a broken hand.
CBS Sports’ table, in an entry dated September 27, listed Fabbro as expected to be out until at least November 3. With Provorov and Fabbro both on injured reserve, Columbus has played the early part of the season without two defensemen.
Lundestrom is on long-term injured reserve after having Achilles surgery over the summer. He is expected to miss months. He is walking without a boot as he works through an extended rehab.
Dante Fabbro is expected to be the first player back in the lineup. Eyes are on him to return from his broken hand within the week. There’s no new update on Provorov’s timeline.
